This interactive website will provide school managers or governors a simple means of assessing their schools environmental and sustainable performance. It will provide a variety of standardised "Benchmark" values for comparative purposes and have the ability to offer more specific benchmarking comparisons.
Additionally it will provide: -
- Prioritised output statements that will highlight how schools can improve their environmental performance.
- Background information, in general, and about specific technologies available for improvements.
- Data for possible Curriculum use or pupil project work.
- Contacts/Links to organisations providing funds and/or curriculum activities.
- A historic record of the schools environmental performance and benchmarks
The tool covers the following six themes: -
- Energy Use.
- Air Quality.
- Biodiversity.
- Waste Minimisation and Recycling.
- Water Use.
- Pupil Activities.
In each theme, a context is provided as well as background information and detailed "pop-ups" providing additional information. An on-line questionnaire in the form of a "tick box" matrix generates a numerical value for comparative benchmarking purposes.
There is a link to the centrally held Asset Management Plan (AMP) database so that, for most schools, factual school information will not need to be re-entered.
This tool is designed to be "user-friendly", useful on several levels, supportive of existing initiatives and encourage environmental improvements in and around schools, which often lead to COST SAVINGS and ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS in a "Win-win" situation.
The website can also be used: -
- To inform GOVERNORS, LEAs, and OFSTED
- To encourage PUPILS
- To gain PUBLICITY
- To report to PARENTS
- To seek additional SPONSORSHIP
- To improve the SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT
- To demonstrate LEADERSHIP
