Sustainable development is a strategic issue for leaders in education as well as in business. It can lead to significant, sustained improvements in operational practices and in pupils’ achievements.

Chronos For Schools is a short e-learning introduction to sustainable schools designed for headteachers, governors and school improvement advisers. Developed by leaders in the field, this programme explores sustainable development as a practical strategy for school improvement.

Developed with the support of the DfES and Cisco Systems Inc. including the University of Cambridge Programme for Industry (www.cpi.cam.ac.uk), Chronos has tutorial activities that include:

  • A role-play that puts you in the place of an educational leader facing sustainable development issues that play a significant part in the development of a major educational initiative – Every Child Matters.
  • Questionnaires on values that can affect your attitude to sustainable development in education and on your school’s progress towards sustainability.
  • Case studies that give a range of views from ten schools on the impact of a focus on sustainability.

Chronos for Schools is designed both as an integral part of Leading for the Future and, under licence to individual schools, as a stand-alone tutorial.

More information on Chronos for Schools will be available from Spring 2006 at www.sdchronos2.org\schools.
